Question

I found two baby kittens that had been abandoned at Dan Foley Park in Vallejo, California. I took the kittens and had them tested for feline leukemia and both had positive results. The kittens are extremely healthy. vibrant, playful, very personable and friendly. I was told that the kittens should be put down but I look at them and I see such an enthusiastic willlingness to live a normal life without being subjected to euthanasia. I have thought about getting them spayed/neutered and trying to get a loving home for them in a home with no other cats. I contacted Community Concern for Cats but Gemma Olsdorf who knows of a family who accepts feline leukemia kittens/cats but she will not help me. Is there an organization that accepts kittens with the desease so they can live out their life without being euthanized? Is it possible that the test could be an incorrect positive because of their young age (2 months).

Answer

Hi Dorothy- Yes, it is absolutely possible that the positive test results can be false until 6 months of age!! Can you keep them until then, and retest them?
