Question

PLEASE NOTE: The person who "answered" this question last night did a terrible job. He didn't read my question asking for TWO different kinds of solution, he didn't provide a diagram and he wasted 12 hours of the time I had to get an answer to this question.

So, here it is again (and whoever answered last night -- I won't name names) stay off the queue this round. Your answer sucked!

a golf ball with an inital angle of 34 degress lands exactly 240 m down the range on a level course.
Q1: neglecting air resistance, what initial speed would achieve this result?
Q2: using this speed, find the max height reached by the ball.

Expert: Please answer this question using the projectile formulas that employ built-in trig functions and . . .

ALSO answer the question JUST USING using x and y vectors.

Provide diagrams. Thx

excellent explanation. just one (fairly stupid) question: where did the formulas you used in the first part of the answer come from? I'm only familiar with trig formulas in physics like: y = (v initial)(sin theta)(t) - 1/2 (gt^2).

Thx

Tom

Those formula are direct result of the one you gave and few others.
