Answer

Hello, I have read your additional information.

Because you have developed blood in your sputum, you need to have a chest xray performed. The blood in your sputum may be from bronchitis or it could indicate that you have developed pneumonia.

The zithromax is a good antibiotic but it sounds like you may require additional treatment with oral steroids and an inhaler as well (especially if you are feeling short of breath).

The cough can linger for quite a while, but it should be getting better, not worse and therefore warrants an additional office visit.

If you have any other questions, let me know.

I hope that you feel better soon, Dr Abby

why only pink in morning

Answer

Good question. I am not exactly sure.

It could be blood from the sinuses or nose that is swallowed during the night and then coughed up first thing in the morning.

It still requires a chest xray, to make sure there is nothing in the lungs (blood vessel malformation or pneumonia)

I would expect the blood to be throughout the day in these conditions, though.

thank you, I suffer from severe anxiety and always worry alot so colud something like this be cancer, I am sorry for bothering you

Answer

I completely understand your concern.

I would try not to worry about cancer. You have been sick and have many reasons to have blood in your sputum.

A chest xray should be done just to be complete, but the blood is almost certainly to be from your illness, not cancer.
