Question

I am installing pergo flooring in 3 connected rooms in my house. The largest room is the den with is 24x20 runing north to south. 2 windows and a sliding glass door on the north end. foyer and front door on the south end.   hallway runs east to west off the south wall of the den and is 5x16 feet long. Dining room (12 x 12) with large picture window (north wall) is opposite the hallway and on the north side of the house.

What direction do I lay the flooring if I want it to look like one continuous floor (no transition pieces)? North to South or East to West?

Thank you for using Just Answer!

The rule of thumb when planning to lay pergo flooring is that you want the planks to lay parallel to the light source of the room. Since you have 3 large windows and a sliding glass door on the north side of the home, you will want to lay the planks from North to South.

If you were to place them perpendicular to the light source, all of the edge seams would be enhanced by the light and the floor installation would not look good.

The only tough area of the installation will be the hallway because you are going to have to cut alot of pieces. Typically in a hallway you will want to lay the planks parallel to the long wall. This makes for an easy install and typically there is no exterior light source in a hallway. Since you want it to look like one continuous floor they will have to be perpendicular to the wall in the hallway.
