Question

hello,
my name is mercedes samchez. I was given aferret in february of this year. She's been sick and all forms of antibiotics since I got her. I was sent to a university vetenarian hospital. I was told my pet has a cyst in her adrenal glands. I need 2,000 dollars for surgery. Please let me know if this type of surgery will help her. She is extremely thin less than a pound. She eats, but has diahrea constanly. I feel awful because I can't afford the surgery. Is there a program or organization that can help?

Hello,

I'm sorry that you and your ferret are going through this. When there is a cyst or tumor on the adrenal glands, this type of surgery is very effective.

Perhaps it would be possible for you to arrange a schedule of monthly or weekly payments with the hospital. Maybe a family member would give you a loan. There are groups and programs that help, but with the economy the way it is right now, many of them don't have a large supply of funds. Still, it can't hurt to try. This link has a list of organizations that offer financial help to pet owners who can't afford vet bills:

If the hospital is a member of the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) that group has a program to help qualifying pet owners. A vet has to apply for you, but you can get more information and download the forms here:

Care Credit offers low-cost loans. If that's something that would help you, you can read more here:
