I have a 10 year old gas hot water boiler heat system for my 8000 sq. ft. open building with 14 ft. cielings. What is the most cost efficient way to use this system. Should I shut the system down at the end of each day or just turn it down to a much lower setting, so the next day I dont have to reheat the building all over again?

Hello,

I would not suggest shutting the unit down at the end of the day. With a boiler unit, it takes awhile for the system to reheat and it would use much more fuel to do so. If you turn the heat down at the end of the day , it would take a shorter time to recover. If this is a cast iron boiler, it should last you a long time, and this type of radiant heat, is the most efficient type of heat there is. When the thermostate has reached temperature and the boiler is shut down... heat still continues from the pipes and it is a very even heat also.

When you say turn it down, to what temperture should I turn it down to. Most of the time I keep the thermostat at 62o during the day. The average temp in the winter evenings is the mid 30's.

Thanks
