Question

Hi

Can you please help, initially I thought i may have been infected with hiv about twelve weeks ago but after testing neg at 7 weeks and looking at main symptoms, im not sure it is it at all. 12 weeks post exposure my problems are more oral, I have still sorish throat but not severe, flesh coloured spots on tonsils, over last week I have tingling sensation in tongue, lips and roof of mouth, no sign of thrush, no lesions apart from white ligns down cheeks which i have put down to cheeks biting. I am really leaning to anxiety as I have done nothing but worry for 3 months now, excessively. My question is, can anxiety cause these problems I am having, I also having tingling in scrotum and thighs but again no lesions. I have had rashes which were not raised (blotchy) which came on torso and arms and thighs but came and went, mainly on a morning, I have no swollen lymph nodes and no fever, can anyone suggest my problems, please help????

Answer

hello.

If you have already been tested negative , I do not see any reason to worry now.

Your symptoms could be anxiety related ( tingling senasations are never related to aids)
Oral mucosal lesions could be related to vitamin deficiencies.

I only have tested neg at 7 weeks so I know I have to retest about now but I dont think this is HIV. I am leaning more to HSV as My lips are tingling burningboth inside and out and have spots on throat which are perfectly round which have not reacted to a recent course of anti biotics. My question is does HSV affect the lips/tongue and roof of mouth and cause tingling/burning sensation, if so does it still have symptoms afet this length of time approx 8 weeks, I have re patches above my lips under nose which look red and irrated, this is where I am also getting these strange sensations, or is purely and simply anxiety.

Answer

Herpes simplex does cause these kind of symptoms.

If you had done a PCR test and that came out negative , there is no chance of any HIV infection. If it was Elisa/Western blot test for HIV anti bodies, than you need to re test.

are you saying then that a burning or tingling sensation in the throat, lips, tongue and roof of mouth are not symptoms of hiv one expect to have at twelve weeks exposure and they would not last for 8 weeks?

Answer

Such symptoms will only be seen at very low CD4 counts and never occurs at early stages of the disease.

at early stages, say 12 weeks is it the case that the CD4 count is not low enough to cause these problems? I have something under my tongue on what look like a vein which is small but dangly, could this be a hsv lesion, it is sore to touch

Accepted Answer

The appearance you describe does nt seem like hsv. , they resemble fluid filled vesicles .
in any case, it s not possible to effectively rule it out without having a look at it.
i suggest, you get it checked with a physician to put your mind at ease.
