Question

My Computor does not recognose my maxtor One touch 4 Minni when connected.
Has been working Ok for 2 years.
I beleive that the problem may have been caused by my Mini still being connected at time of Computor start up. An on screen message appears_ boot from CD-NTLDR is missing-Press Ctrl,Alt, Del to restart.
On this occasion the operator did not dissconect the Minni, prior to pressing Cntl,Alt,Del, and in fact repeated this operation around five times, before reporting the problem to me.
My computor now keeps advising that the "E" drive needs re configuring.

Windows XP 2002

On connection to Comp- Auto play search takes place, then nothing.

When asking Comp to open Drive "E" it advises that it needs reconfiguring. To do that would mean that all info on the Mini would be lost

No, the data should not be lost.

Do you have software for your srive installed?

No.

On initial installation, all that needed to be done was to connect the Mini unit, press the button on the unit, and follow on screen instructions

Hi XXXXXXXXXX.

Just try another USb cable for your drive as it has been seen in many cases that a faulty cable is the culprit.

try right click on the device 'Other Devices' in device manager with a yellow question mark" , disable /restart , check if he enable it by himself, otherwise right click again /enable /restart and check again .

How to Open Windows Device Manager

if this is a PC try only the USB port at the back .

this is probably a problem with your computer or the way you are using the drive and/or removing it. run a diagnostic on the drive to see if it is defective

check out the troubleshooter - it can help a lot

Downlad and install software for the drive:

This can be downloaded from the Maxtor support site: http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/ .

people solved it and it works perfectly by replacing the USB drivers on the portable hard drive.

you should:

  • download the software installer and save it on your computer (you don't need to actually install the software)
  • within the download, you will then find a USB driver folder containing 14 files
  • copy these files to the Maxtor portable hard drive(after connecting it to another computer) to replace the identical 14 files already contained on it.

I assume that one or more of the files had become corrupted. I noticed that the USB drivers (unlike the 1394 and security drivers) are not installed on the C drive as part of the Maxtor software, so the Maxtor drive presumably uses the on-board drivers.
