Question

My cat of nine years old has a reoccurring runny water eye duck that is dark red in color at times. Her eyes are fine and it doesnt seem to bother her. She is a black and white female, indoor cat that has never been out side. I use the store brand eye wipes and a cleanser for eyes. It hasnt gone away. I got her from the pound as a kitten.

Hello, Jessicacat.

Even though your cat's eye doesn't seem to bother her, she may have an eye infection or other eye condition which is causing the discharge and redness that you see.

If you are using an over the counter eye wipe and eye wash that is for humans, this is not recommended for cats. If the eye wash is plain sterile saline eye wash, that's fine, but if the eye wipes are not made for veterinary use, they may be irritating to her eye and surrounding tissue.

It would be a good idea to bring your kitty to the vet for evaluation, so she can be examined in person, diagnosed, and then treated.

I hope all will be well with your furry girl.
