Customer Question

My x wife is going after sole custody of my children with no visitation and still wants child support. She just got re married and wants to change the kids last name to her new married name. The only reason for this is I live in New York and she lives in Arizona and I haven't seen kids in about a year and a half due to financial problems. Been paying child support but am a little behind. About 3000 dollers I think. Problem is I cant afford to go to Arizona and fight this and cant afford an attorney to fight it for me. What should I do?

Expert's Answer

You need to file an answer within the time limit on the summons. You can do this yourself with some research at your local law library. Then you can petition the court to allow you to appear by telephone. They will usually allow this considering the circumstances.

You should have been served and the summons should be attached. Take another look at the paperwork since you only have a short time to file your answer.
