Question

We purchased a Hampton Bay Classic Collection vanity fixture (three lights and chrome). We also have a place for a ceiling light in the bathroom; but can't seem to find anything that matches. Can you recommend anything...it's a small bathroom so it doesn't have to be real big.

Thanks

Ann

Hello XXXXX XXX XXX, and thank you for your question.

I advise going with something simple for the ceiling fixture, since it's in a small space, and presumably not an especially high ceiling, and I'd consider whether it's important to you that the metal type and finish of your ceiling fixture needs to exactly match your vanity fixture.
Some folks wouldn't dream of using more than one metal or finish in the same room - in other words, if they have one chrome fixture they'll only consider another chrome fixture. But it's often recommended to go with a more muted finish for a ceiling fixture - meaning that if your vanity fixture is chrome, you should consider brushed chrome or nickel fixtures for the ceiling.

I'm more in the latter camp, especially for a small bathroom, so I'd suggest this simple brushed nickel oval ceiling mounted fixture: http://www.homedepot.com/Lighting-Fans-Interior-Lighting-Ceiling-Mount/h_d1/N-5yc1vZ1xr5Zaqi6/R-100654289/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053

I'm not a big fan of any of the chrome-finish ceiling mounted fixtures in the Hampton Bay lines, especially for a small bath - but here are a few to consider, that might work with your Classic Collection vanity fixture:

Another direction to consider would be a plain, low-profile white glass fixture, without metal trim - either square or round could work. I think this is a better choice for a small bath than any of the chrome options, and this type of fixture tends to look at home with any other style and finish of lighting. Here are a couple to consider:

Of course it is not necessary for you to stick with a Hampton Bay/Home Depot product. I'd encourage you to visit local lighting showrooms, and consider simple, low-profile, surface-mounted fixtures, especially in oval, square, or rectangular shapes.
Don't be afraid to consider mixing metal finishes, or going with a bit more contemporary style for the ceiling fixture than for the vanity fixture.

I hope this information is helpful, and if so please click the green "ACCEPT" icon as this is the only way that I get paid for my answer through JustAnswer.

Thank you.

We already visited other stores, mixing metals does not sound good. Can't find chrome bases. I was hoping you could pin point something for us.

Hello XXXXX XXX XXX, and thank you for your reply and for your Accept!

This type of question tends to somewhat subjective, and it can take a bit of conversation with you. In order to try to source a fixture for you, it will help to have some more information:
What type of shape are you looking for (round, square, oval?)
What type of profile do you like? I linked you to a few chrome fixtures in my answer above - all of which are part of the Hampton Bay collection and recommended to coordinate with your vanity fixture. All of them have a rather deep profile, and tend toward "classic" styles, rather than more contemporary. Is there anything in particular that you can tell me about those fixtures that you dislike?
Are you looking for chrome bases only - i.e. is a simple white glass fixture out of the question?
I hope to hear back from you with more info on your tastes. As I described above, chrome is not as popular for ceiling fixtures these days, the choices are more limited than with a brushed finish, as you've found. But I'll continue to look for chrome options, and will post info here when I turn some up.
