Hi XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX~
Sounds to me as if your girl might be having some kind of allergy...especially if the Benadryl is helping the itching.
You might want to consider talking to your vet about switching from the Benadryl to a medication like Temaril P or Atopica, both of which are made specifically for allergy dogs.
Hopefully if he switches her to a medication more geared towards this problem then both the ears and the eyes will clear up for her.
I hope this helps.
There are veterinary allergists...but you generally need a referral from your own vet before you can get an appointment with them.
And yes, there are monthly allergy shots...some vets don't do them though, preferring to treat symptomatically.
It's not a bad idea to talk to your vet about both getting a referral and asking if he thinks the monthly allergy shot would be beneficial for Sadie.
Dear Friend,
Thanks so much for a calm and soothing voice in a time of worry, my dogs are my kids and thats no lie but it just seems that my vet is totally lost with this, we have been working on Sadies problem for over two years now and the older my little girl gets the more trouble she has, I will try the medicines you recommended and ask for a referal to a allergy specialist if we get no relief, Jasper and Benny also have trouble but not nearly so bad, this all started when I put in our backyard and they got grass to play on so its probable a grass allergy. One more thing, if my vet has no recommendation for a specialist is there a website for vets who specialize in allergies and what questions should I ask to make sure I know that I have a good doctor to bring my pup too?
There isn't a website for allergists that I know of...but odds are that your vet will know who to refer you to.
As for questions...feel free to ask them anything at all...it's your right as a pet owner to expect solid answers to whatever questions you may have.
If I've helped you tonight, please take a moment and hit the green 'accept'button. It's the only way I get credit for my answers. Thanks!!
