Question

2001 Oldsmobile Alero has "Low Coolant" light on. I checked the coolant and it is full. The temp stays at half during highway travel, occasionally it goes up just below 3/4 when I am in heavy traffic or in a drive through line. My question is why would that Low Coolant light remain on? Also, I use this car for travel about 90 miles a day, would it be safe to use it for now?

when it gets near 3/4 it goes right back down after a minute or so. The light is constantly displaying.

Answer

Hello, for the message staying on it if the level is ok is sounds like a coolant level sensor, no for temperature it sound like that the first stage of the electric fan does not turn on, then when the second stage of the fan comes on, the temperature comes down, the could be either a relay or a temperature switch.
