Question

I have lambda control limit codes for bank 1 and 2, and lamda controller deviation codes for bank 1 and 2 for being too lean "PO171B". What part could this tell me is faulty with my 01 Z3 3.0i BMW?

Answer

Hi, the most common issue that causes this is a torn rubber intake boot.
Inspect near the throttle body where it branches off to a smaller tube, they crack there and let unmetered air into the engine.
If there is no driveabilty issue this is likely the problem. Sometimes it's not obvious, I would use a flaslight, and use your finger to check for cracks in that area.
