Hi kss47,
Thank you for using JustAnswer.com, I'm Dr. Dan and I'll try to help you.
By treating all animals in your house with flea prevention for 3 or more months eventually the fleas will disappear from your carpet.
The easiest thing to do is vacuum very slowly and very deliberately everywhere there is carpet, especially where your animals lay and under furniture. This needs to be done every day and many of the fleas will be sucked up as well as their larva and pupae. You can also use boric acid on your carpet, (make sure it doesn't stain or discolor the carpet first), apply it to your carpeting and under furniture and where your pets lay allow it to sit for a day or two and then vacuum it up slowly. Boric acid dries out the carpet environment and helps kill the larva. This will significantly decrease the flea load. To remove them completely you usually need to use pesticides. I hope this helps, best wishes.

Just do the best you can with the vacuuming. Boric acid is not harmful to babies unless they eat a lot of it.
