Info Request

Hi There,

How old is she?

How much does she weigh?

Is she simply a domestic shorthair, or any particular breed?

Standing by to help...

she has just turned one
we do not know how much she weighs but is about medium and getting heavier(she used to be extremely light and that is why we think she is pregnant)
she is a domestic shorthair as far as i know
plus we think she is already pregnant
by an unknown tom
we think so because she is getting heavier but her nipples are not swollen although she has started to stay inside a lot and close to home
her stomach is not round yet

Answer

Good Morning and thank you for the info...

Any time a cat gives birth there is a risk, but as long as she is at least a year old, it is much safer than if she were younger as she is pretty much now full grown. If the dad is a large cat and the kittens follow suit she may have a problem, but most of the time it is just fine. However, she may not be pregnant, she may simply be filling out at her age. The first sign of pregnancy would be that her nipples will pink up, and this shows about 3 weeks into the pregancy, well before weight gain. The won't be swollen just yet, but the nipples will be more pronounced.

That said, if you think she is pregnant, I have attached a link to read that will let you know what to expect, what signs are dangerous, etc. If you bookmark it you will have easy access to it when the time comes should the need arise.

Pregnancy and Deliviery

Lastly, A vet can tell you more definitively if she is or is not pregnant. Might not be a bad idea to have her checked to find out as well as to schedule to have her spayed. It will prevent further pregnancies as well as some serious health conditions that can arise in unspayed females. For low cost spaying options click the link below.

Spaying

I hope this helps!

Warmest Wishes,

Reani
