how can I check whether it is worth fixing an old f&p/kelvinator (early gentle annie type model). Not been used for over a year - when turned on made a high pitch noise and nothing happended. Can you suggest steps to see if it's worth fixing.

First open the freezer door and do you hear a fan running inside? Also, where do you hear the high pitch noise coming from?

It's a washing machine.
Water runs into it but nothing happens excep it made the horrible noise.

ok and if you advance the cycle to the spin portion then what happens?

We didn't try to advance the cycle as the noise was so bad we just switched it off.
I will need to try that later.
If we turn it on and can't advance the cycle what can we try next?

Accepted Answer

You should be able to advance it no matter what but if the noise goes away then your problem is not going to do with your drain pump. If it doesn't go away then you have a bad motor.
