Question

I purchased a Creative Zen 4 GB Portable Media Player April 2009. 2 Weeks ago I started having problems......When I put the player on pause and turn it off and later turn it back on it is not at the correct place where I stopped listening...for example it usually is at the beginning of that section. The "key" on the side of the mp3 player seems to be losing its original "spring".

I have another player exactly like the above mentioned and it last about the same length of time.....the side "key" seemed to lack its original "spring"....It refuses to allow me to delete books I have already listened to.

This may work...if it doesn't you can reformat and reload the firmware (I can give instruction on that.)

  1. Gently push the end of a thin object (such as a pin or straightened paperclip) into the Reset hole.
The reset hole for the ZEN is located at the bottom of the player, below the Shortcut button.
  2. Your player has a feature called recovery mode which is used to recover itself from a malfunction. This provides you the steps to access this recovery mode.
  3. Turn off your player.
  4. Press and hold the power button to turn on the player.
  5. When the Creative logo appears , press and hold the back button until the Recovery Mode screen appears. Three menu items are shown: Clean Up, Format All, and Reboot.
  6. Select Clean Up
  7. When the cleanup is complete, select Reboot. Your player restarts and rebuilds its music library.

Todd G. I am not sure what the "back button" is that you refer to. I have tried what you suggested to the best of my ability and can not find the Recovery Mode Screen. I am still not able to delete books on this mp3 player. HELP!

Todd it simply says creative on the black case and 4GB on the back. Looking at the box it says creative and then zen another place on box. 4 GB 1000 songs, video.photos SD slot, Vibrant 2.5"screen, supports iTunes Plus 16.7 Million Color Display. Another place on box says AudibleReady S/N: MAPF2162839M13662T Sorry I have no more information. Thanks Betsy Boozer Yes, Todd that is the button on the top right front. I tried it.

Make sure you press and hold the circled button right when the logo shows up...not after. That is the only way it works.

Todd I have tried it several times as instructed and it will not bring up the recovery mode, clean up, etc. Any other suggestions?

Answer

  1. Detach the player from the PC if it is connected, and turn off the player.
  2. Press and hold the Play button while powering on the player.
  3. When the player displays the Creative logo, release the Play button
  4. Select Format (All) and select Yes to format the player, maybe you can see .
  5. After the player has finished formatting, select Reboot.
  6. Everything will be factory default
