Question

I have a Model KX-P1592 dot matrix printer that has operated flawlessly since 1985! It continues to operate extremely well with an old DOS program called Professional File. The printer driver came with this program. DOS programs are still supported in Windows XP Professional, believe it ot not!

I am converting from PRO FILE to MS EXCEL (where I've already researched the required EXPORT/IMPORT MATTERS) for such data filing and would love to still drive this same printer. Can you support me with a software program that will allow me to go from MS EXCEL to this printer??? The fan-fold printing capability is the underlying objective.

Thank you for the question. Unfortunately, Panasonic did not write drivers for Windows XP compatibility with their printers. Microsoft offers some drivers for certain dot matrix parallel printers, however not for this particular model. The unfortunate answer is that you will not be able to print from XP with this printer. You can try the KXP1180 Driver... This is a fairly common driver that will work with nearly all 9 pin Panasonic Dot Matrix printers and has had both XP and vista versions setup.

 

Go to control panel

Printers

Add Printer

Then auto sense your printer, if nothing comes up try selecting the KXP1180 then try and print a test page...

 

You will still have to manual set your page size under Excel but with a little experimentation you should be able to get this right...
