Question

My father has an 09 Maxima and every time he tries to start it the thing stammers for 3-4 seconds before turning over. Sometimes he has to try starting it twice. The local dealer he bought it from seems to think this is "normal". How can a car that is less than 6 months old with less than 5,000 miles acting like this be "normal"? If the local dealer is treating him like this, should he just go to another dealer or somewhere else?

Thanks

Answer

OK!

The reason I ask is if the oil level is to high it can cause a hard start , check it after sitting a while on a flat surface, I the level is ok, then I would ask the dealer to reset the idle volume learn, this is the base setting for the throttle body setting, the setting could be off and not allowing enough air into the engine on fist starting, I would do this first Thanks let me know if you have more questions, ROY!

I guess the dealer is saying that he should put the key into first position so the seat and steering wheel adjust, then wait 3 seconds, then turn the key the full turn. Is this how these are built? To wait for 3 seconds each time you sit down and try to start the car?

I will take your advice above, but had forgot to ask about the 3 second thing. Have you heard that before?

Thanks,

Nathan

HI! Nathan

I would wait until all the adjustments are done before starting the car, I have never heard of teh 3 sec waiting time, after seat is adjusted to the setting you can start the car no waiting time , Thanks and good luck , let me know if you need any more help ROY!
