Optional Information

Year: Pre-1983
Make: LandRover
Model: Forward Control 101
Engine: Isuzu 2.8 Turbo Diesel

Already Tried:
The vehicle sports an Isuzu 2.8 turbo diesel engine and thus the steering pump is no problem. However I do not know which power steering box will fit easily since there is very little space.

Answer

I pit power steering in my 101 by using a bolt on kit from jc Whitney company. I am not familiar with a south African company. The kit is a universal vehicle kit and it bolts onto the drag link and chassis. It just adds assist based on wheel angle. It wasn't too expensive either. Here in the us kits like this are fairly common for people adding it to hot rods.

Thank you. Since there are very few fellows in South Africa who has some experience of this transplant, the major problem is to find a suitable power steering box. I have considered fitting a push-pull hydraulic cylinder to the main steering rod but according to some of the knowledgeables this will leave you with little steering feel.

Accepted Answer

I think the steering feels pretty good with the cylinder. It's not a race car and it does really work well. I've only see one with a steering box and it came out of an international scout and required lots of work. You might contact the dunsfold trust in uk and asked what steering they used the judge dredd 101s. I am almost positive they has power steering. Plus it's fun to talk to those guys.
