Question

The coolant in my car has been leaking sionce the point of putting my car in for a service. The have since then done a coolant pressure test for 1 hr. There was noting found. It is still leaking and if that was the case they are recommending to replace the "EGR Cooler" at £600. The coolant seems to be taking a week to leak below the minimum mark. Its an audi A3 Tdi Sport

Welcome to Just Answer Keith, There seem to be two things that you are doubting.

1/ the actual diagnosis of the EGR cooler
2/ the £600 quote.

Firstly the EGR cooler is a common failure with most manufacturers and can be difficult to diagnose, I have seen people replace cylinder head gaskets for this as the symptoms are the same i.e. unexplained coolant loss and possable hydro-carbon readings with a block tester.

Next the dreaded bill, Audi are known for their high labour costs and i should imagine half of this quote is for labour, you should ask for a discount on parts and labour as they are probably quoting a full retail price, you can say you are brand loyal and you want to stay an Audi customer, also the want your business and don't want to loose you.

The alternative is that you use a good local garage whose labour rate may be up to a quarter of Audi's also they can probably get discounted trade prices on the parts.

I hope this helps you, best regards, XXXXXXX.
