Answer

OK, so it's likely to still be in his stomach. In cases like this, I usually recommend having a veterinarian examine him and administering an injection to induce vomiting. If this glove sits in his stomach, there's a good chance it will cause a blockage when it moves into the intestines.

If no veterinarian is available, then we sometimes talk about using Hydrogen Peroxide to induce vomiting. While this is usually safe, you must understand that there is a risk of quite severe gastritis (stomach irritation) as a result of usine peroxide. We usually recommend 1/2 to 1 mL per pound ( so you would administer approximately 1 ounce of peroxide to a 65 pound dog, you can mix it with a small amount of milk or ice cream to improve palatability.

We often recommend administering some food or treats BEFORE giving the peroxide, so that there's enough food bulk to carry the foreign object up when vomiting occurs. A cup of food, perhaps, might be adequate.

Again, the safest option is to see a veterinarian, but if you don't have access to a vet tonight, then hopefully peroxide will safely get the glove out. If it doesn't come up, I would suggest seeing your vet first thing in the morning.

Thank you, that worked. How long should he keep vomiting?

Accepted Answer

Great :) Hopefully his stomach will settle within a half hour or so... Don't offer any food until tomorrow morning, to allow his stomach to rest.
