The mortgage to our home is in my husbands name and my name is on the tile only. He left the house and is threatening me that if I do not pay for the house it will ruin my credit.

I have asked him to pay 50% of the mortgage untill we can sell the house to protect both of our credit. He has refused.
Accepted Answer
Hi millie,
The nonpayment of the mortgage in Florida, which is
not
a community property state, would not affect the spouse whose name is not on the mortgage.
However, in the long-run, there is a possibility that nonpayment
would
affect the spouse whose name is not on the mortgage. That would be if the house were sold in a foreclosure, that spouse was still in the house, and the new owner commenced eviction proceedings against the remaining spouse. Eviction proceedings
can
have a negative effect on the credit rating.
