Question
Hi I have a Volvo V40 1999. My problem is that I have difficulty in selecting reverse gear. After several clunks I can feel the gear slide into place and it reverses like a dream. It's selecting the reverse gear. I have had the nylon bush replaced 2 years ago. That's the "white bush underneath the gear selector. Can you advise please?

Answer
If This is a standard transmission then it could be a couple of things. First could be time for a new clutch reverse gear always needs more clearance.I dont think the nylon pushings would wear out in 2yrs but maybe something else in shift linkage. I would also have the oil in transmission check in case it is low. If none of this helps then more than likely it is internal. Most likely sincro for reverse gear. I hope this helps.
thanks
