I took my Volvo xc90 in to have it checked for a possible gas leak they took out the gas tank and looked at everything and could not a leak I still smell gas and think it may be very dangerous is ther a problem with maybe the recovery system

Ok, can I ask, if you are smelling a vapor fuel smell, or a heavy fuel smell.

What I am trying to get to is, do you think its a fuel leak....wet spots on the ground, very overwhelming gasoline smell....

Or is it a light whiff from time to time, you can get the smell?

There are no visable signs of a leak but it can be very strong at times and I also notice that when I take the gas cap off ther is like no suction sound

Ok, well this is what I have seen in my area of the country.....

These new "ethanol" fuels.....they are suppose to help the enviroment? but they KILL rubber! You have an evaporative emissions system....this includes a charcoal canister. Well this system has rubber hoses. There is one rubber hose in particular that is over the rear suspension, that fails regularly. At the dealerships we call them a "J" hose....because they look like the letter J.

This is what I would suggest for replacement as a first step
