2001 s40 o2 code , scaner shows #1 , slow to read - replaced with OE unit , reset with scaner - drove 150 mi. check engine lite back on - what am i missing ??

now sometimes with this code I have seen actually the rear oxogen sensor causing this problem the only real way to see this is with the freeze fames, but i have seen this on this model a few times, it does happen.

you can not check this with a generic, it has to be checked with a volvo type scanner and sometimes this can be a hard diagnois. but like i said i have seen this a few times with this code, beacause the rear 02 will read incorrect causing the ecm to think there is a problem with the front 02 sensor.

Is this an ok to drive conditon - will it fail Pa emisstion test

It's ok to drive, but it will fail emissions test because they scan codes when doing emissions test, now if you clear the code before you go for the test i don't think it will fail the test.
