Several keys on my laptop keyboard no longer work. Is there a way I can clean or check them myself without taking it in for repair?

i, o, l, k and most times, n are the letters that stick.

My Dell Laptop was purchased in 2003. I had a new hard drive installed by the Geek Squad at Best Buy in mid June. The new replacement hard drive failed 7 weeks later and a second new hard drive was installed. In June only the i and n keys were occassionally giving me trouble. I was told that nothing was wrong with the keyboard and figured it was my hand cordination. Now additional keys aren't working and I know its not my typing.

Click START > RUN > Type osk.exe and press enter.
A keyboard will open on screen. Let me know if those 5 keys work on that using mouse.

Hello !!

Right now are you using a different computer ? ... is it a laptop or desktop ?

Have you tried to connect an external keyboard to that laptop and does it work fine ?

I'm using my husband's desktop computer to write to you... I didn't know I could use an external keyboard with my laptop. Give me a few moments and I'll see it that works.

Answer

Hi !!

In that case its a hardware problem with laptop keyboard.

Buy a Compressed Air bottle and blow air under both those keys. Mostly there is some dust / paper / garbage stuck under the keys.

If blowing air doesnt help, you will have to very carefully pull out those two keys (youtube has videos on how to do that) and then clean up there using air. Then plug in the keys again and see it works.

If it does not work then you will have to replace the keyboard. Else buy a external desktop keyboard and use that.
