May I ask why you replaced the condenser fan motor and capacitor?

When ever the a c unit started to blow hot air I noticed the condensor motor wasn't running. so i thought it was over heating . But once I changed it out the problem still persists

Does the condenser fan motor run like it is suppose to now that you have replaced it and the capacitor?

It runs fine at start up. But when the unit starts to blow hot air it shuts off.(The condensor motor)
It will run normal for 3 or 4 hours. Before it starts to blow hot air. After I shut the thermostat off for an 45 minutes to an hour The unit will blow cool air

Right its OEM. When the a c blows cool air the condensor is running. But when the a c unit blows hot air its off. I don't understand what is causing the condensor motor to shut off

Do you know if your thermostat is meeting the setpoint?

What do you have it set at, and what temperature does it say it is?

85 days and 10 hours ago.

Reply

Its set at 77. It reaches that point and cycles. The unit runs fine for a few hours. Than starts to blow hot air. After I put the thermostat in the off position and wait for about 45 minutes and turn it on to auto after about 5 minutes the a c comes back on and blows cool for a few hours

Answer

This sounds like your evaporator may be icing up.

Have you checked your air filter?

I clean it monthly. I've had a couple of thechs come out to service the a c when I first started having this problem. Each time they came out everything was working fine. The first tech checked the freon and what ever else they do when they come out. The 2nd tech cleaned the coils it worked fine for about 2 weeks and started over again doing the same thing.

When it started blowing hot air again thats when I noticed the condensor motor wasnt runing. I thought the motor was going out so I decided to change it out but nothing has changed.

Does your evaporator drain into a condensate pump?

85 days and 9 hours ago.

Where is the evaporator located?

Posted by Kenton Guidry 85 days and 9 hours ago.

Answer

It is the inside part of your air conditioning.

The evaporator will be mounted with the furnace.

Yes it does. What would cause the evaporator to ice up.

Posted by Kenton Guidry 85 days and 9 hours ago.

Answer

If the evaporator is iced up it is either lacking air flow, or lacking refrigerant.

I would try using a shop vac to clean out your drains. This will eliminate one source of a problem.

Do you think your evaporator is icing up?

85 days and 9 hours ago.

not sure if its icing up or not.Its draing properly. The tech checked that out when he cleaned the coils. What would cause the evaporator to ice up

Posted by Kenton Guidry 85 days and 9 hours ago.

Answer

An evaporator will ice up if it does not have proper air flow, such as a blower motor going out, or shutting off from overheating. A dirty filter, or evaporator coil would also reduce airflow.

Also, the evaporator will ice up with there is a loss of refrigerant, or the metering device is restricted.

Since you have had this system check, the companies should warranty thier work.

The blower motor runs when the a c blows hot air. What would cause the condensor mortor to shut off when the a c is blowing hot air?

Accepted Answer

The thermostat could be off calibration.

Or a safety device would do that.

As an example a pressure switch would keep the system from running the condenser.

Or a safety on the drain line.

If this problem happens at the hottest point of the day I would start with the high pressure switch, but not all systems have one.

Some systems do not have any safetys at all.
