Question

I have just purchased a "95" Roadtrek on a Chey. Under the driver side dinette cushion is a steel box which has no holes in it. This box is rather large. Was this box for a generator. Could I use this to add larger house batteries

Hi, Bernie...My name is Randall and I believer I can assist you with this. Thanks for coming to Just Answer with your question. Short answer, yes...you can use it for just about anything you want. I am fairly sure it was for a generator. Some vehicles plan ahead for that. One this to consider is how far and how much trouble will it be to get the DC to the rest of the batteries. The longer the run, the larger the cables need to be. You need to remember the batteries need to be vented. Some ventilation will be needed if this is airtight. Another thing worth considering is to add several solar panels and have more DC going into the batteries you have now. This is almost essential if you are dry camping to keep the batteries up. These are available for about $225 each and it's best to use 2 of them. If you opt for the extra batteries, get 2 six volts and make a 12 for max amp hours and not use any more space for the most part. This is why bigger Class As use four 6 volts for the house batteries.
Let me know if I can be of further help. All the best, R.J.
