Question

Help! My daughter went on holiday yesterday and bought her 18 month old cat to my house for me to look after. As soon as she let her out of her basket she went into the nearest corner, and lay on top of a small metal container not exactly warm (and we all know cats look for the warmest places) put her head down and 24 hours later she is still there! she has not eaten, not been to the toilet and worst of all has not drunk anything! I have made her an enclosed bed with my daughters dressing gown, I have sprinkled cat treats everywhere and keep rolling little toys past her but she just looks up and puts her head back down. I have stroked and fussed her and she's not frigtened of me because she lets me touch her, but she's not purring, she just looks at me with these huge huge eyes ( just like the cat, puss in boots, in shrek!) Should I take her back home and just go in twice a day and feed her etc., or will she eventully perk up, she is obviously very sad and homesick, thank you!

Hi XXXXXXXXX,

Welcome to Just Answer. It sounds like this little girl is very stressed out by not being in her normal environment. It is probably a situation that if she was given enough time, support, and coaxing - she'd get more comfortable at your place. How long will that take? That is unknown. If it is an option to take her back to your daughters house to then check on her twice a day - I would honestly say she'd be much, much happier with this. Some cats get very stressed when they have such large changes in their environment. So my opinion is to take her to where she's most comfortable.
