as a step parent do i have the right to punish a step child (grounded) from activities the mom said i couldnt do this do i have the right to do this in our home or because i am not legal parent or gardian do i have any right

tried to talk with child and mom about this has happened before and no help she works 2 shift and he has gotten worse lately so i worned him several times of this and it continued till i had no choice but to ground him from all activities outside home mom said that there was plans already been mad to join bowling yteam for youth group and she had already said he could go and i told her no he was grounded

As a step-parent, you and the biological parent have the right to implement and enforce your own rules while the child is in your home. You should, however, agree with the biological parent before implementing any rules as they are the one who will have to answer to the court if the other parent challenges your actions based on the best interests of the child.
