Hello and welcome to Just Answer.
There has been some quality issues with the earlier production hpps that hasa been identified by BMW. They are in the process of changing the design of the internals so that they will last as long as the rest of the engine. The older pumps have not been totally weeded out of stock but they will soon be replaced with pumps that are made to BMWs high standard.

Answer
The newest pumps will be in production now so any pump with the manufacture date after august 09 should be the updated pumps.
