Hi,

OK, we need to go ahead and turn it on to see what runs and what doesn't . Check to see if the outdoor unit runs and if the indoor blower starts up,

Let me know,

STILL BLOWING AIR OUT OF VENTS; NOT COLD, NOT WARM. COMPRESSOR IS RUNNING; UNIT IS 'ON', NOT AUTO.

Accepted Answer

Hi,

It sounds like all of the major components are running and that is a good sign , it is very likely that all you will need is refrigerant checked and probably added, there isn't going to be much for me to have you do as it seems like a refrigeration problem now.

Sorry to hear about the employment situation, it's pretty bad in my area also.Don't worry about choosing the nine dollars option it is plenty for the question you are asking and we appreciate your business.

Thanks

Mark

THANK YOU. THAT'S WHAT WE WERE HOPING, HOWEVER GIVEN THE AGE OF THE UNIT, WE JUST DIDN'T KNOW. I THINK WE ARE ALL IN AGREEMENT THAT IT IS, AS YOU SAY, A "REFRIGERANT" PROBLEM. WE HAVE A LOCAL A/C CONTRACTOR HERE WHO CAN COME DO THE FREON THING. PRAY THAT'S REALLY ALL IT IS! THANK YOU SOOOO VERY MUCH AND I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH $9. YOU HAVE BEEN WONDERFUL AND CONFIRMED WHAT WE SUSPECTED. JUST WANTED AN EXPERT OPINION BEFORE MAKING A $100 HOUSE CALL! ;-) WE APPRECIATE YOU!

HUSBAND WENT OUT TO CHECK UNIT; HEARD LOUD "WHIRRING" (?) SOUND AND SAW WHITE STEAM/SMOKE. I WENT TO LOOK AND IT SMELLS LIKE SOMETHING HAS BURNED UP INSIDE (?) OMG. WHEN I WAS ON COMPUTER LEAVING FEEDBACK AND HE WAS OUTSIDE, THE MONITOR FLICKERED AND POWER ON THIS END OF HOUSE HALTED BUT DID NOT STOP. CIRCUIT BREAKER DID NOT POP THOUGH. A/C VOLTS ARE 208/230 - NEVER A PROBLEM BEFORE. TOP FAN IS STILL SPINNING. FAN LISTED AS A 1.3 MOTOR (?) I'M VERY AFRAID THE COMPRESSOR BLEW!

Hi,

It sounds like it went off on internal bypass, shut it down until you can get service. The compressor may still be fine.

Thanks

OKAY WE'LL PRAY THE COMPRESSOR IS OKAY (BURN SMELL?) IT'S ALL SHUT DOWN AND WE'VE CALLED A CONTRACTOR. HOPEFULLY WILL HEAR BACK SOON. THANKS! ALLISON

Answer

Hi,

A burn smell is usually associated with a fan motor problem and not the compressor, the fan motor can also cause the compressor to go into the bypass mode which is what it sounded like you described, you may be looking at a new fan motor.

Thanks
