Thanks for the info. If it IS the fuel pump relay that is bad, is that generally an inexpensive fix? I am looking at purchasing a 98 VW Beetle for my soon-to-be 16 yo daughter and this is the only issue with the car. If I can get it for a good deal, I want to be sure that I am not going to sink $3-4k into trying to repair this problem because that is more than the car is worth. Thanks!

If it is NOT the fuse and the fuel pump relay needs to be replaced, is that an expensive fix? Basically, I am trying to figure out if this car is worth purchasing if I can get a good deal.

Also, what is the average life expectancy (in mileage) of the new Beetles (1998-2002)?

Answer

The fuel pump relay is about 30-40 dallors.
