I have a 1988 735i. the door lock system worked fine until I installed a new battery, now they are locked in the "unlock" position. when I use the door key to try to lock and unlock a loud noise comes from what sounds like the rear passenger door on the drivers side. Getting the gas tank door to open can be a real workout of lock/unlock till it releases the catch. Is there a way to reset or replace a fuse or?? thanks so much. Jeffrey Solomon

Good Morning - osrry I missed your reply last night. Yes the key system is NOT dead.

It lets me use the key on both front doors and trunk. It will raise and lower windows and roof and if I need access to the gas tank, if I flip the key back and forth a few times somehow the lock releases on the tank lid. Thanks. I hope you can solve this because I don't mind paying at all. I just want the little nagging things to work. I love the cat even if it is 20 years old..Thanks again. Jeffrey

sounds like what you are going to need is a preprogram software wware scrambled when battery was replaced

Thanks for the suggestion. I unserstand what it says, but not what it means, do I have to go to a BMW service center to have software installed by a technician? I know I sound ignorant but don't know what to dow with the information. Would this condition also have caused the the onboard computer to just go blank? (the one next to the radio) Thanks.

Yes go to bmw service let them diagnoisis and possibility info screen could have sofware issue or it may be internally failed
