1999 BMW 323ic, when the top is going down the and lid opens the rear lip of the top now hits the raised cover. It also hangs up on the cover when i put the top up. it seems the lid for the top cover is not opening enough?

There is a adjustment that can be made to open the back up more. If it is already opening all the way the problem is the straps that attach to the back of the top from the front they can stretch and not lift the back up enough. To test have someone operate the top and try pulling the cover back more to see if this helps if it does all you have to is adjust the rod that moves it. If that doesn't work grab the back of the top and try to move it forward and see if that helps. If it does new straps will have to be fitted this is a huge job not something that should be tackled on your own.

Where do you make the ajustment from? the trunk, and how is it ajusted

It is made under the cover just stop the top movement with everything out of the compartment. Then remove one end of the rod loosen the lock nut and spin it out one turn and test.

Actually its the covering lid that is not going up enough for the top to clear it. It appears there is a motor or drive in the truck that actuates it but I cannot find and adjustment to this?

It is moved by a motor in the trunk but the rod is adjustable and that is stored where the top goes.
