Question

have a sailboat with a yamaha four stroke engine, 9.9

the red engine stop lanyard fell out and we cannot figure out where to re-attach it

thus, we cannot restart the engine

please help

Hello XXXXXXXX,

 

Depending on the year and your not sure. But this is most common way

 

Insert the black plastic lockplate on the kill switch lanyard onto the orange engine stop switch.

 

It will be on the front face of the motor or on the tiller handle side.

Thanks very much. The outboard has a manufacture date of 06/03. The kill switch is farther up the tiller, by the throttle and F-N-R lever. There is a place to hook the lanyard below the engine cover on the engine housing itself. I snapped it on but the engine still won't start. The engine cranks but does not turn over. No spark perhaps?

If it ran before you pulled the lanyard out then maybe you didnt insert it properly.

 

Make sure its in neutral and throttle on start.
