Question

I have a 2007 BMW 525i that does not have the navigation system. I recently purchased the complete BMW Professional DVD Navigation System which included the 8.8" on-board monitor, CCC Car Communication Computer, idrive, CCC fan wiring harnes, GPS antenna, and LVDS cable. I also had the system coded to my BMW (VIN#). I also have the new updated 2009 Proessional navigation map disc. From my understanding, this is all I need to make this navigation system work. How difficult is it to install this system and how much would it cost to have a professional intall it for me? I'm in the Detroit, Michigan, area. Do you know of a Dealership and/or BMW certified mechanic that could install this system for me and approximately how much would it cost? How difficult would it be?    Thanks. Please provided any additional information you may have on this Professional navigation System. Thanks again.

I'm thinking of adding a Siruis Satellite Module for satellite radio. I understand this is a plug-n-play (fits in the truck on driver side). Is this difficult to install. Can I do it myself? Do I have to do any coding to the car?

Answer

Hi I just looked at the repair instructions for this it quotes 5 hours to install this according to bmw. At the dealer we use that as a guide line they will probally charge you around 7 hours to install. So if they have a labor rate of 100 dollars it is going to be 700.00 to install. After the install the car has to be encoding for this to work. Yes I know the system was coded for the car. The instructions state that. But then the car itself has to be encoded. So in the long run you are better off going to a bmw dealer itself. As you have to remove alot of the dash componets, c pillars , a pillars headliner has to be lowered.Alot of componets has to be removed. That could get messed up technicians at the dealer are way more familar with the car.
As for the siruis it does get mounted in the trunk but there is a most bus connector that you have to swap cables around. Then that car has to be encoded for addind siruis radio. Anything added to theses newer cars has to programmed and or encoded on the car side. Thanks mike

Does it sound like I have all the necessary parts for the navigation system (I was told that was all the components)? Are you familiar with any dealerships in the Detroit suburban area that could do this for me? Thnaks gain for all your help.

Mike -

I e-mailed my sales person at the BMW dealership where I purchased my 525i so he could coordinate installation of the navigation system. He said that my BMW could not be retrofitted. I e-mailed another dealership and they said theyw ould not do it because it was too difficult. What do they mean that my 525i could not be retrofitted with the navigation system? all it seems is that you have to take it out and put the new one in and parts? Why do they think it would be too difficult?   What and where can I go from here? Can you help me at all Mike?
