Question

I have a 1976 Aristocraft with a sliding hard top. It has inboard/outboard so I have no obvious way to connect a trolling motor. I want to take the boat to the coast to use in the bays and
would like some sort of backup motor...either a trolling motor or a "kicker" motor.
Any ideas how to mount either one?

Hello Camel,

 

You will need to install an auxiliary outboard bracket on your transom, very easy to install.

 

Here is a link of a few brackets, they are available at most marine parts stores.

They run about $150--$300

For a 40 lb thrust trolling motor do I need something as robust as the outboard brackets
you mention? The back of the boat curves to almost a 90 degree angle at the top of the boat. To anchor to the boat do you just screw into the fiberglass? I don't see a good way to connect a flat plate on the back of this boat. Boat is actually a 1973 just as is the motor.

No you dont need a robust bracket for a trolling motor, just a simple adjustable to accommodate the curve in your transom.

 

As the light weight of the trolling motor the bracket would be screwed into the glass.

 

The larger brackets are through bolted.
