Question
I have a 2003 745 and the vehicle will not respond to the key at all. I tried both keys and nothing. I went outside because my wife heard an alarm going off so I wanted to see if it was my alarm. When I tried my keys they would not respond. I opened the car with the manual key and the car would not accept my fobs and I can't even open the trunk. Any idea what could be going on???

Answer
Hello,
It sounds like the battery has been completly discharged.
The alarm and or interior lights may have been on for some time.
In either case this will keep the rest of the computers in the vehicle from entering a sleep mode. This causes the battery to be discharged at an accelerated rate.
I would try charging the battery or jumping it under the hood.
You may then want to test or replace the battery and have the vehicle electrical system scanned to ensure something is not draining the battery. It possibly could be just a failed battery given the age of the vehicle,if it is the original one.
Thanks, Jacob.

Where are the terminals located under the hood?

Answer
The positive is toward the back of the engine compartment under a red plastic cover that is marked with a + and the negative should be a large stud next to it that is connected to the body.
Your owners manual should show you a picture of these locations.

Unfortunately for me my manual is in the trunk and I can't open the trunk. I see the positive but i cannot find the negative to save my life. Is it marked negative??

Answer
No, the negative is not marked. You can just hook it on one of the strut top studs. These are gray and in a cluster of three on each side. I can not exactly remember where the negative post is. Look along the side of the inner fender or around the strut towers.
Any good ground will work.

Ok...I'll get back to you as soon as my wife is awake so that I can get her to hold the cables. I don't want to shock myself.

LOL....i guess the alarm is what drained the battery....as soon as I hooked up the cables the alarm started going off again. Not sure what that was about. I turned it off and jumped the car. Thanks for your troubles my man. $20 for you!
