my 318 convertible 1994 with a 1.8liter engine shut of while driving on the highway, I heard a phfoot sound and the engine shut off and when I tired to turn it over it crank but will not turn over, any ideas's? put in a new water pump and thermostat recently.

Do a compression test and check the timing belt, the belt may have broken on you.
