Have a frigidaire refrigerator M# XXXXXXXXXX. The compressor will kick on and run for three or four hours, cycle on and off normally and then it hums and clicks and the overload takes it out. Can un plug for 15 or 20 minutes and it will come on and start running again and will do the same thing in a few hours. Replaced the start relay and have the same result. I left it unplugged over night to be sure the compressor would be cool and when I plugged it in it hummed and tripped out and I waited for it to reset plugged it in and it started normally. I checked the capacitor and it read 12.4 MFD. The compressor never gets abnormally hot. Any suggestions?
you did replace the overload and relay on the compressor?
Yes. I purchased it from a local appliance store. The numbers match the old one.
Thanks.
if you have replaced the overload and relay and the compressor is still doing this then the run windings are the problem inside the compressor ,, if it was the start winding then it would kick out and get hot on start up but when its the run winding it will start up and run till the windings get hot and then it shuts down ,,, if this fridge is less than 5 years old it can be fixed at no charge because of the 5 year sealed system warranty and if over 5 it will run between $500 and $700 for a cfc tech like myself to do the replacment and recharge of the system / thanks Larry
