The most likely condition your cat would be suffering from is cat flu. This is a viral disease which often is endemic in animal shelters, catteries, or places where there are stray cats like colonies of cats which live round farms or stables but household cats can get it as well. Sometimes they contract this disease at a young age and then it can be recurrent throughout life.
The signs you would see would be some or all of the following : Runny eyes, a nasal discharge and coughing and sneezing, some cats run a temperature and then stop eating or drinking and become lethargic others can be quite bright as the disease runs its course.
Unfortunately there is nothing much you can do on your own in this situation, the normal human over the counter remedies which contain aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs can be very toxic to cats and should be avoided. I cannot think of any natural remedy which would be of any use either, the treatment would normally include oral antibiotics, antibiotic eye drops and a good nursing care. As antibiotics are prescription drugs this will normally mean a visit to the vet.
