Hi XXXXXXXXXXXXX,

Why was Lady put on those medications?

Did she just take the first doses a half hour ago?

Is she back to normal now or is she still acting funny?

She has lost alot of weight due to an infection caused by flees, i gave her, her medication around 7 oclock shes still breathing rapidly and am worried to go to sleep incase she passes away in the night.

I'm sorry to hear that she is sick. It is unfortunately very hard for to say why she is having this type of reaction. It is not something we normally see with antibiotics or steroids. If anything it causes vomiting or diarrhea but not neurological signs.

Did you put any medications on her for the fleas?

yes, its stonger than frontline and can only be bought at the vets. Her stomach keeps gurgling which ive never heard before i dont know whether that helps.

Was it Promeris that you applied by any chance? It's like Frontline but newer and it has a strong eucalyptus smell?

Selamectin

Accepted Answer

OK that is helpful. Selamectin (Revolution) should be OK. I have not heard or any neurological reactions with it's application but it is possible.
It sounds like she may be having a reaction to one or more of the medications. There is really no other explanation for her symptoms I guess.

I would recommend taking her in to a vet tonight if she is still acting strange. If not your vet then I would go to an emergency vet.

If the symptoms have passed and she seems OK then you can wait til the morning and then take her back to your vet.

Not sure why the stomach is gurgling. I would do the following if you are going to wait to take her back to your vet until tomorrow:

1. DO NOT give any more medications.
2. Bathe her with Dawn dish soap to remove any residual selamectin from her coat.
3. DO NOT feed her but make sure she has plenty of water.
4. Give her 10mg of Pepcid AC (famotidine) by mouth (just once). This is an antacid and should help to settle her stomach.
5. Keep her in a calm, quiet place near you so you can watch her closely.

I really would try to get her somewhere tonight but if you can't watch her closely and take her right away if her symptoms get worse.

I hope this helps. I wish you all the best with her. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
