Question

My 2000 Rodeo has the Brake and Battery lights flickering (not constantly, normally during a bump or turn). I have replaced the battery and the alternator, but the flickering continues. I've checked the grounds near the battery and they appear secure. What am I missing? It appears to be a common problem, but I can't find any answers! Help!

Hello

What is the output charge on the alternator?

Thanks

When it was tested after the install, we got a reading of 14 volts though id did fluctuate a little. As long as the car is level there is no problem, it becomes more pronounced when the headlights are on... It seems to be flickering in a "wave motion" or "sloshing motion" after a bump or turn.

Accepted Answer

1. Can cut the White/Blue wire at the gauge assembly and at the alternator and run a new wire between the two to eliminate a possibility of the White/Blue wire intermittently being shorted to power.

2. Can unplug all the wires from the alternator and rewire it - use jumper cables to jump battery voltage from the battery positive cable of the battery to the battery stud on the back of the alternator and from the battery negative cable of the battery to the case of the alternator. Then use a jumper wire to jump battery voltage to the terminal on the back of the alternator the Green/Yellow wire would normally go to (which is sense voltage for the regulator) and then use a powered up 12 volt test light (in place of the charge light circuit) into the terminal of the alternator that the White/Blue wire would normally go to. Then test drive the vehicle and see if the alternator continues to charge normally or not. If the alternator still fails, the problem would be in the aftermarket alternators. If it does not fail, run the new wire between the gauge assembly and the alternator.
