Question

I am using Dreamweaver CS4 to develop a page. I developed a Master/Detail layout spry data set with pictures of anatomy parts on my index page. I would like to put multiple hotspots on the enlarged selected image to open a description of the clicked on hotspot, and stay active so that I can navigate to another html for further details. I don't know how to go past the insertion of the spry data set pictures.   An exact example is on this web site (

Answer

Hi XXXXXX! That is a cool feature, that I teach my student in level 3. It's a few things.

1) The image itself is nothing but a rollover image with hotspots. Seems like you got that just fine.

2) The description are AP Elements. (Layers really). Create an AP element and drag the little blue box where you want it. Type in the information you want the user to see.

3) Now the only trick is to have it show and hide. On Your AP elements pallete. make sure the eye is CLOSED. This will hide the layer. Now click on the hotspot...go to your behaviors panal, and add a behavior (by clicking onthe plus sign). The behavior is called Show/Hide layers. Click on the layer you want to show and click on "SHOW". (Verify the mouse Event is 'On Click" and you are set to go! (ActiveX must be enabled to tet, but works great when published.)

4) Repeat for every layer...simply put the layers over top of each other and hide them all!

I'm a beginner so please excuse my ignorance.

1. Dreamweaver doesn't use 'layers' as a term.

2. Do I do all the changes on the data table image window or my index page where everything is sent? If I work on the index page, how do I position the hotspots when I don't see the image until I work in "Design View" Live View of my Dreamweaver screen?

3. Another question is how do I get the hot spots to be a color and add behaviors because when I did it in the Data Set table screen it doesn't transfer over to my index screen?

Accepted Answer

Yeah, dreamweaver now calls layers "AP Elements"

You will need to work in design view to set the hotspots up accordingly.

If you want them to be colored, then you can either use Photoshop to color in the "clickable" areas or if you want to go more complex, use behaviors to swap the image from 1 to another when they roll over a particular part of the graphic. (In essence, you will have a few pictures stacked on top of each other and they will quickly swap out depending on where the mouse is at.)
