Question

We live in Dekalb County in Atlanta, GA and are looking to erect a garden shed in our back garden. It is 8' X 10' X 7'10 high. Can we just get it put up or are there limits and planning permission needed?
Thanks.

Virtually every county or municipality has some sort of jurisdiction body that has implemented rules and or ordinances for what you have in mind. These rules can vary even in the same jurisdiction. Proximity to lot lines, fire codes, view impairment, structural integrity, etc. are some of the factors in making a determination. I would not advise you to just go ahead and erect the shed without input from your local county or city plan & zone or building dept. I believe by making this initial contact with someone you will find what you are planning will not violate and codes or ordinances. However, it's best to make sure first.
