its an 83 camaro but the engine is an 86 or 87 350 gm vin out of a truck.

I think these cars had a external small coil. See if on the neg side of the coil is a brown wire that leads to a resister looking thing with a white wire on the other side (this is the tach filter). the white wire runs to the tach. I have seen these either unpluged, broken wires, pluged into the wrong side of the coil or even crushed between the eng and trans. The pink wires should be on the other side of the coil. The connector on the coil is what confuses people because there is 4 term but each 2 is jumpered together, be carefull.
