Customer Question

I have a maytag side by side referigerator that has ice accumilating between the evaperator and the fan causing a noise and the fresh food control must be set on max to keep the food cold. I replaced the defrost heater element a few months ago because the entire evaperator was froze up. I placed the defrost thermostat on the tube that returns to the compressor. Now the ice is forming on the tube from the compressor. Have i got the thermostat on the wrong tube?

no. at the evaperator where the small line connects to the evap. I think it is called expansion valve on into the evap.

it will frost up on the part of it inside the freezer ,,, and you say there is frost building up around the fan?
is it frosting heavy on the coil or just around the fan?

I is on the tube but is is about 3 to 4 inches in diameter and causes noise at times. The fan runs fine but the ice is blocking the flow of air. I am just wondering if I have the heater thermostat switch on the wrong line. the return line is clear of ice even though it goes through the ice. I have the thermostat clipped onto the return line.

Accepted Answer

put it on that one about 3 inches from the end where the cap tube starts on the larger part ,, defrost the freezer and when you get the freezer back together make sure the door is closed tight and allow 24 hours for the temp to get right and the frost to go away
